Ireland/England Summer 2013 Trip
In June 2013, 12 Eastern Connecticut State University students accompanied Visual Arts Lecturer Muriel Miller on a trip to coastal Ireland; the Aran Islands; and England’s Lake District National Park, a mountainous region in northwest England known for its lakes, forests and mountains. Central Connecticut State University Biology Professor Barbara Nicholson joined the group with several CCSU students.
The interdisciplinary trip provided students with an opportunity to develop and apply skills related to their majors. Art students focused on form and color in natural settings and developed perception and technical art skills through painting and drawing landscapes. Biology students studied animal behavior, plant growth forms, fossils and ecological interrelationships.
Combined biology presentations and art critiques provided students with forums for discussing and developing their work. The students also visited the home of author and illustrator Beatrix Potter and the studio of John Ruskin, a Victorian-era art critic.
Artwork produced during the trip will be displayed in the Shafer Hall first floor showcases at the beginning of the fall 2013 semester.
