Although this is not a certification preparation program, the primary target clientele for the master’s degree in educational technology program is classroom teachers and other PK-12 school (Connecticut and elsewhere) personnel who wish to enhance their instruction and curriculum with the resources available through the use of educational technology. Other clientele who might find coursework in the program informative and applicable could include noncertified personned tasked with supporting educational technology, concerned community members who wish to explore the applications of educational technology for learning and teaching in their communities, and business/ university/community college faculty and staff.

The Master of Science Degree in Educational Technology program is designed to integrate educational technology applications within the expertise of professional educators as they prepare their students for success in a highly technological and rapidly changing world.

This program may be completed with oncampus or online courses.  Participants should be able to complete the majority of program at a distance, complete both oncampus or online courses, or complete this program entirely oncampus.  We encourage all of these options, with a particular focus on students completing the majority of this program online.  (The capstone seminar, EDU 570, has evolved into an online discussion seminar with monthly meetings on campus, usually on Saturdays.)

All coursework must be completed within 6 years of enrollment in the first graduate course.

The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) does not offer certification in Educational Technology or Computer Education.  This program will not lead to an institutional recommendation to the CSDE for teaching certification.

Applicants seeking admission to a graduate degree program must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum GPA of 2.70. Records must show evidence of professional promise and ability to complete graduate level study.

All students must submit:
1. Completed application accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee.
2. Official undergraduate transcripts from all relevant institutions attended.
3. A statement of philosophy and professional goals
4. References from two individuals knowledgeable about the candidates’ ability to complete graduate work

The Graduate Division Office must receive materials before acceptance into the program can be granted.

Upon evaluation by the Dean of School of Education and Professional Studies, students will be notified in writing of their admission to the Graduate Program. At that time, students will be assigned an advisor and will be expected to complete a written program of study within three (3) months.

Acceptance of graduate course work prior to admission is conditional upon review by the assigned graduate advisor and approval by the Dean. Students must formally request that courses taken prior to application to the graduate program be accepted. This must be written into the student’s plan of study. Students are expected to work closely with an advisor in completion of their programs.

Attempts will be made to distribute advisees by interests with specific advisors. Some advisors request that their advisees plan to complete a thesis project, others may not have this request. We will try to accommodate interests in the assignment of faculty advisors and advisees.

Limited transfer credit may be applied to your plan of study to substitute for required and elective coursework.  To have coursework taken in another graduate program substituted for MS in Ed Tech coursework, applicants must compete the request form found at http://www.easternct.edu/depts/graduate/applications.htm and attach it to catalog descriptions and/or syllabus of the previous completed coursework. Please send this packet of information to your advisor for further consideration by faculty members who teach the targeted courses within the program. You will be contacted if your request has been accepted.

Transfer credit is limited to up to 6 credits from other non-CSU graduate programs, with up to 9 credits for coursework taken at other CSU campuses.

Transfer credit will be awarded for compatible coursework taken within 6 years of completion of the MS in Ed Tech program. All coursework for this program must be completed within 6 years - starting with the first course granted credit within the program.
