What is Accreditation?
Eastern must meet a series of standards
laid down by the New England Association for Schools and Colleges (NEASC)
in order to receive a renewal of accreditation. Through these standards,
NEASC measures each university in the region, making sure they are providing
students with a quality education through their programs and services.
What is NEASC?
The New England Association of Schools
and Colleges (NEASC ) is the independent body that evaluates colleges in
the New England region. NEASC is one of six regional accreditation associations.
Why Does Accreditation Matter?
Accreditation is essential
for Eastern students to receive federal financial aid.
What Is The Process?
The campus writes a self-study which
will be submitted to NEASC in August 2005. NEASC will send a team
to visit campus in September or October of 2005.
How Is The Report Being Written?
A 9-person Steering Committee,
chaired by June Bisantz-Evans, is overseeing the report-writing
process. Each of the 11 standards that NEASC considers will be examined
in a separate chapter, with each chapter to be written by a special committee
of faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Drafts of these
chapters will be posted on this web site as they are available so that
all members of the community may read and comment on them.
