On Oct. 2, Eastern hosts the panel discussion "Gandhi's Legacy of Ahimsa" in recognition of Mohandas K. ("Mahatma") Gandhi's lifelong advocacy of nonviolence. Panelists include Uma Mesthrie, Gandhi's great-granddaughter; Usha Thakkar, director of the Institute of Research on Gandhian Thought and Rural Development in Bombay; R. P. Jain, co- owner and publisher of Motilal Banarsidass Publishers in Delhi; Bal Ram Singh, director of Indic Studies and the Gandhi Lecture Series at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth; Emmett Bradbury, associate professor of philosophy at Chicago State University; and Eastern Philosophy Professor Hope Fitz. Roger Buckley, founding director of the University of Connecticut's Asian American Studies Institute, will moderate.
