The Arts and Lecture Series continues on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in Shafer Auditorium with Mel Johnson Jr., performing as Frederick Douglass in “In the Shadow of Slavery.” This one-man performance chronicles the life of Frederick Douglass, the most important African American activist in U. S. history. From his childhood as a slave to his perilous escape to freedom, Douglass’s remarkable life is sure to educate and entertain. An actor and film producer, Johnson’s Broadway credits include Mufasa in The Lion King and parts in Jelly’s Last Jam, The Boys from Syracuse, and Hamlet. Film credits include Total Recall and the final two episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
