Students from Eastern, Central and Southern Connecticut State universities were among more than 90 college students who participated in a video public service announcement competition for college students sponsored by the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Connecticut, Inc. (WSWC) in conjunction with organizations including The Governor's Prevention Partnership.
The topic for this year’s contest, “Renewing the Spirit of Connecticut: Tackling Underage Drinking,” was announced in January 2008. The contest was open to any Connecticut college student and required students to create, film and edit a 30-second television public service announcement designed to curb underage drinking. The purpose of the PSAs was to motivate parents to talk to their children about the dangers of alcohol.
Two groups of Eastern Connecticut State University students placed first and third respectively and won a combined $3500 in prize money. The award ceremony was held on May 7, 2008.
