EEOC Commissioner Wraps up Chase Institute’s Distinguished Speakers Series |
The Hon. Christine Griffin, commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), visited Eastern on April 4 and lectured on the topic, “The Impact of the EEOC within the Workplace.” Griffin told the audience, “We are transitioning from the workforce and workplace of the 20th century to the workforce and workplace of the 21st century, in which America's workforce is undergoing significant changes in ethnic and gender diversity. While pregnancy discrimination is on the rise, women also still face a pay barrier as well, in which women earn on average 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. Also, too many employers underestimate the abilities of employees with disabilities, and too few companies are taking advantage of the potential marketing power of people with disabilities.”
Economics professor Ken Parzych called Griffin’s presentation “exceptional. It sets the stage for an even more impressive group of speakers who will visit Eastern in the fall.”
