Propane is usually used in the form of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Liquefied petroleum gas consists mainly of propane, propylene, butane, and butylenes in various mixtures. However, for all fuels in the United States, the mixture is mainly propane. It is produced as a by-product of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. Propane is a popular alternative fuel choice because an infrastructure of pipelines, processing facilities, and storage already exists for its efficient distribution. Besides being readily available to the general public, LPG produces fewer vehicle emissions than reformulated gasoline
