Dr. Paul A. Bryant

Dr. Bryant earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina, a Masters of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He began his career in the United States Coast Guard in charge of over 150 new fellow recruits. He left the military to teach behavioral and emotionally handicapped children in the public schools during which he pioneered an innovative approach to mainstreaming children with behavior problems. After years in the public school system, he was recruited to work at the local university as the Coordinator for Upward Bound, a pre-college program where he had participated as a teenager.
He later became the Assistant Dean of Student Life at Elizabeth City State University. He left that position years later to become the youngest Dean of Student Development at Averett University in Virginia. After years in Danville, Dr. Bryant was presented with a new challenge; becoming Dean of Students at Western Connecticut State University in Connecticut. In this position, Dr. Bryant was responsible for providing leadership and direction to several Student Affairs Departments. In 2003, he became Dean of Students at Eastern where he currently serves as Acting Vice President for Student Affairs.
