Dear Visitors
and Friends:
The
Eastern Connecticut State University Learning Center staff and I
welcome the opportunity to serve all who wish to use our services.
We encourage your visit to the Center early in the semester to explore
the many options made available. The quality and success of the offerings
we provide all depend on timely intervention, assessment of need
and a focused response to the need.
Our
goal is to “serve students first” with offerings that
have relevance and substance. The Center’s service offerings
include tutoring support, one-to-one assistance in writing, math
and experiences that enhance skills development, time management
or academic support in other ways. All of our program offerings are
designed to ensure students of achieving their full potential at
the college level.
STEP (Summer Transition at Eastern Program) is an integral component of CAP (Contract Admissions Program), and together they are educational development and support services that are made available to students through the Learning Center at Eastern Connecticut State University. The programs offer counseling, tutoring, development courses and financial assistance (when need is demonstrated) to fifty to sixty highly motivated students who, using traditional criteria, might have been denied admission to the University.
Eastern
Connecticut State University and the Learning Center realize the
need to serve outside the walls of the academy. This ideal is achieved
by the service the Center provides middle and high schools from the
communities of New London, Windham, Norwich and
through the Connecticut Collegiate Awareness and Preparation Program
(ConnCAP). Often the Learning Center staff is sought out to consult
and design academic support strategies for a wide range of agencies
who serve youth.
I
encourage you to explore our web site and review the many services
you can access. We are here to serve all Eastern’s students – those
who want to enhance their high achievement goals and those who may
experience difficulty. All are welcome and assured the best in quality
of service. Our telephone number for information and assistance is
465-5198. The Learning Center is located in the Alvin B. Wood Building on the second floor, section 204.
We wish for you
every success in your academic endeavors.
Sincerely,
Floyd E. Bagwell,
Jr.
