Scholarships is listed below. Students do not
need to apply for a specific scholarship. It is
the charge of the committee to not only rank the
applicants but also to match the appropriate scholarship(s)
with the most deserving students.

| Dr. Jacqueline A. Abbott Scholarship |
This endowed fund was established by Dr.
Abbott and her friends and colleagues upon
her retirement to honor the more than 30 years
of service that she had provided to Eastern’s
community. The scholarship is awarded to nontraditional
students in good academic standing and with
academic promise who would benefit from special
financial assistance and plan to pursue a
career in the field of education. |
| Academic Achievement Scholarship |
Awarded to a student who will be a senior
and who has a GPA of 3.0 or better, and is
interested in sociology or psychology. |
| Adopt-A-Student Scholarship |
The ECSU Foundation Inc. currently funds
this scholarship with the approval of the
ECSU Foundation Board of Directors. It is
awarded to full-time, in-state undergraduates
who maintain a grade point average of at least
3.0. |
| Cecile I. Allen Scholarship |
Established in 2004 by Cecile I. Allen '32,
this scholarship is designated for a student
in good academic and community standing, majoring
in elementary education at Eastern Connecticut
State University. |
| Alston Memorial Scholarship |
An anonymous donor, who wished to continue
the legacy of writer and historian Mary Niven
Alston, started the fund for this scholarship
in 1982. Ms. Alston was a lifelong scholar
who placed great value on the pursuit of knowledge.
This scholarship is designed to financially
assist nontraditional students. The award
is intended to defray the expenses of deserving,
returning women students. |
| Barnes and Noble Endowed Scholarship |
This endowed scholarship is made possible
by Barnes and Noble. It is awarded annually
to a current Eastern student who has demonstrated
outstanding academic achievement. |
| Dr. Stanley F. Battle and Judith Rozie-Battle
Scholarship |
Established in 1998 by family, friends,
and co-workers to honor former Associate Vice-President
for Academic Affairs Stanley F. Battle, and
Judith Roxie-Battle, this endowed scholarship
is awarded to students who have academic promise
and who would benefit from special assistance.
The preferred recipient, who is from an urban
community in Connecticut or Massachusetts,
has demonstrated leadership qualities, good
citizenship, and academic potential. |
| Hermann Beckert Music Scholarship |
Mary C. Rogers and friends of the Beckert
family established this endowed scholarship
in honor of the late Hermann Beckert’s retirement
from Eastern. Beckert served in various capacities
during his many years with the University.
The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduates
with music performance involvement and a solid
academic standing. |
| Charlotte Biederman French Studies Award |
Eastern Professor of Anthropology Irene
Glasser established the Charlotte Biederman
French Studies Fund through the Eastern Connecticut
State University Foundation, Inc. in January
2001 in memory of her mother. It is intended
to further the study of French at Eastern,
and will be awarded, based on merit, to students
who plan to teach French, major or minor in
French or French Studies, and/or study French
through one of Eastern’s study-abroad programs
in a French-speaking culture. |
| Doris Kopochus Brown Endowed Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 2007
to assist students with unmet financial need. |
| Dr. Juliette P. Burstermann Scholarship |
To honor the late Dr. Juliette P. Burstermann,
Eastern's Professor Emerita Margaret S. Wilson
and friends established this endowed scholarship
in 1991. When Dr. Burstermann joined the staff
of Willimantic Teachers College in 1948, she
became the first African American college
professor in New England. Dr. Burstermann
was the first chairperson of the elementary
education department and was known as a consummate
professional who gave her absolute best to
her students. This scholarship is awarded
to an education major demonstrating academic
promise and financial need. |
| The Paul Burton Memorial Scholarship |
The Paul Burton Scholarship was established
in 1999 by Paul’s family and friends, and
was endowed in January 2000. This scholarship
honors the memory of Paul Burton, a 1999 graduate
of Eastern Connecticut State University who
majored in computer science. It is awarded
annually to an Eastern student who is physically
challenged and/or is majoring in computer
science. |
| Connie Campo Memorial Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in memory
of Connie Campo, a former secretary of the
English Department. It is awarded to an academically
outstanding English major, preferably a nontraditional
student who also demonstrates financial need. |
| Marlin S. Clark Endowed Scholarship Fund |
David V.S. Burton established the Marlin
S. Clark Scholarship Fund in 2004. The scholarship
is awarded to a student that is from Windham,
Hartford, New London, or New Haven county,
with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and is actively
performing community service. Preference is
given to students who have successfully completed
the ConnCAP Program. |
| ConnCAP Scholarship |
This scholarship is made possible by a grant
from the American Savings Foundation. It is
awarded to a current Eastern student from
any of the 47 towns served by the American
Savings Foundation, who has successfully completed
the ConnCAP program. |
| Continuing Education Scholarship |
This scholarship is awarded to a nontraditional
student in good academic standing. |
| The Curran Family Scholarship |
This endowed scholarship was established
by Eastern's Professor Emerita Ann Curran
in 2000 in honor of the following members
of her family: Eugene E. Curran, Sr.; Winifred
Moriarty Curran, a member of the Class of
1912; and Eugene E. Curran, Jr. This scholarship
is awarded annually to assist nontraditional
students returning to school and majoring
in elementary education. |
| Jarrell Cuyler and Angelica Padilla Memorial
Scholarship |
Sheridan Vernon of Willimantic, CT created
this endowed scholarship in honor of the late
Jarrell Cuyler of Windsor and Angelica Padilla
of Willimantic. This scholarship is made annually,
where possible, to an Eastern student in need,
in good academic standing and majoring in
social work/sociology/applied relations. |
| Bruno Czech Memorial Scholarship |
The Bruno Czech Memorial Scholarship was
established in 1985 in memory of Bruno Czech
through a substantial gift from the Zayre
Corporation, with additional contributions
from friends and co-workers. Mr. Czech was
executive vice president of Zayre Corporation,
a distinguished visiting Executive Professor
of Business Administration at Eastern, and
an active member of the Department of Economics
and Management Services. The award is given
to a junior Business Administration major
with consideration given to the student's
past academic performance, commitment to his/her
studies, financial need, and potential for
a career in business. |
| John J. Delmonte, Jr. Scholarship |
Madeline Bernstein established this endowed
scholarship in 1993 in memory of her son,
John J. DelMonte, Jr., a 1973 graduate of
Eastern. This scholarship is awarded to a
student in good academic standing who is a
Performing Arts/Theatre major or minor. In
Ms. Bernstein’s own words, the recipient must
have a “driven passion for the theater in
all of its facets.” |
| Dr. Robert W. Dolph Scholarship Award |
The family and friends of the late Dr. Robert
W. Dolph, a former Eastern professor of education,
established this memorial-endowed scholarship
in April 1996. The scholarship is awarded
annually to an education major who shows academic
promise and who will benefit from financial
assistance. Preference is given to students
with a specialty in early childhood or elementary
education. |
| Alf E. Dyrland Memorial Scholarship |
"Celeste Prussia '83 created this scholarship
in memory of her late husband. Its aim is
to preserve the quality of the environment
and continue Mr. Dyrland's goals and desires
through present-day students. It is awarded
to a biology major who has financial need
and is actively involved in a non-paid internship/practicum
or research project directly related to the
environment, either in a lab/field experience
or Tropical Biology course" |
| Eastern Chapter State University Organization
of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF) Endowed
Scholarship |
The preferred recipient is from Connecticut
and is a full-time undergraduate having demonstrated
academic merit and community involvement.
They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. |
| Eastern Connecticut State University New
London High School Endowed Scholarship |
This endowed scholarship established in
2000, is awarded to a New London High School
graduate that will be attending Eastern in
the fall. |
| ECSU Class of 1994 Achievement Scholarship |
The funds that make up this endowed scholarship
are derived from the dollars remaining in
the 1994 Senior Class Committee’s account
at the time of the commencement. The class
officers designated the sum for a scholarship
at Eastern. The scholarship is awarded to
a full-time junior or senior with financial
need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. He or she should
be involved in student clubs or organizations
and community activities, and demonstrate
leadership skills. |
| ECSU Foundation Community Youth Scholarship |
Partially funded by Eastern’s Bowl-A-Thon,
this scholarship is awarded to academically
promising seniors from local high schools.
Each recipient must have made a commitment
to attend Eastern Connecticut State University,
be in the top 25 percent of his/her class
or have a combined score of at least 1,000
on the SAT, and have made a contribution to
the high school and/or community in which
he/she lives. |
| ECSU Foundation Faculty/Staff Scholarship |
This award is made possible through gifts
from Eastern faculty and staff payroll deduction
donors, who restrict their contributions to
financial need. |
| ECSU Foundation Fine Arts Program Award |
Established in 1998 by the ECSU Foundation,
this scholarship is designated for a student
with a GPA of 3.0 or above, who is majoring
in fine arts, either visual or performing.
This award is funded through proceeds from
the Foundation’s annual Fun*Ding event. |
| ECSU Foundation Scholarship |
The ECSU Foundation established this scholarship
fund in order that individual donors may memorialize
the loved ones of their choice. Gifts have
been given to the fund in the memory of Franklin
Prague, Karen Hall, and Biel Beckert. The
scholarship is awarded to students with financial
need. |
| Grace F. Enggas Scholarship |
Established in 1996 to honor Grace F. Enggas,
Eastern’s former Director of Housing and Residential
Life, this scholarship is awarded to a student
with financial need living in a campus residence
hall or apartment. The student must have a
3.0 GPA or higher and have demonstrated leadership,
preferably within a residence hall or apartment
complex. Once a student is selected as a freshman,
the scholarship will continue to be awarded
in subsequent years as long as the criteria
are being met. |
| Forst Family Scholarship |
Established by Dr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Forst,
Jr., ’70/’84, along with four other members
of the Forst family (all Eastern graduates),
this scholarship is awarded to an incoming
freshman or transfer student in good academic
standing with financial need. Dr. Forst served
in many positions during his 25 years at Eastern,
including director of admissions and enrollment
planning as well as director of alumni relations. |
| Founders of Accounting Scholarship |
Established in 2005 by Eastern's Emeriti
Professors Ralph E. Webb, John P. Listro,
and William T. Sisco, the recipient of this
scholarship will have financial need. The
recipient will also be an Accounting major,
who has demonstrated leadership qualities,
good citizenship, has a minimum GPA of 3.2,
and has a minimum of 15 credits in accounting
at Eastern and 75 credits total. |
| Francis E. Geissler Scholarship |
Friends and colleagues of Francis E. Geissler
initially funded this scholarship in honor
of his retirement in 1977, following many
years of service at Eastern. The scholarship
has since been endowed. Mr. Geissler is a
former ECSU administrator. Awarded to a student
who has completed two years at Eastern and
is going to be a junior, who has a cumulative
average of 3.0 or over, and who has made an
outstanding contribution to college life and
to the college community through leadership
in extra curricular activities. |
| Todd Greenberg Memorial Scholarship |
David T. Chase and the Todd S. Greenberg
Charitable Foundation, Inc created this memorial
fund in 1987. The Greenberg Scholarship is
in honor of the late Todd Starr Greenberg,
president of Arctic Kold Refrigeration Company.
Awarded annually to an outstanding business
major. |
| Edith, John and Chandler Hicks Family Scholarship
Fund |
This scholarship was established in 2007
for deserving students. |
| John D. Heredia Endowed Scholarship |
Gina Benoit ’89 established this endowed
scholarship at Eastern Connecticut State University
in 1998. It is awarded to a student in financial
need. The preferred recipient has demonstrated
an interest in or desire to pursue Native
American Studies or has made a contribution
to Native American culture or studies. |
| Luva Mead Hoar Endowed Scholarship |
Luva Mead Hoar ’42, a member of the Eastern
Connecticut State University Foundation, established
this endowed scholarship in 1986 while a member
of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut
State University System. The scholarship is
awarded each year to a junior or a senior
who had demonstrated commitment to the community,
as well as to the University. |
| Maximilian E. and Marion O. Hoffman Foundation
Scholarship |
The Hoffman Foundation established this
scholarship in 1996. It is awarded annually
to a full-time student in good academic standing
and with demonstrated financial need. |
| Carleton P. and Teresa H. James Endowed
Scholarship |
The recipient of this award will be a student
in good academic standing (preferably 3.0
GPA), majoring in Early Childhood or Elementary
Education and preferably from Windham County.
The student must be an in-state resident.

| Sophie L. Jenkins Scholarship |
In 1989, the year of Eastern’s centennial
anniversary, Sophie L. Jenkins ’43 established
this endowed scholarship upon her retirement
as the University’s associate dean of academic
affairs. Additional contributions were made
in her honor by her family and her many friends
and colleagues. The scholarship is awarded
to undergraduates demonstrating academic achievement
and financial need. |
| Dr. Arthur L. Johnson Unity Fund |
This endowed fund was established in October
2000 by his wife, Dr. Marie Love Johnson,
and their family and friends. A portion of
the interest earned on this fund will be used
to assist Eastern students-in-need and in
good standing on an emergency basis and to
fund an annual book scholarship for a student
with unmet financial need. |
| Paul E. Johnson, Sr. Community Conference
Room Scholarship |
The family of Paul E. Johnson, Sr. established
this endowed fund in 1999 in honor of Mr.
Johnson, who served on the staff of Willimantic
State Teachers College, now Eastern Connecticut
State University, from 1948 until 1966. The
scholarship is awarded to students in good
standing who are interested primarily in Native
American and African American studies. |
| Mae K. Kaplitz Memorial Music Scholarship |
Paul Kaplitz established this endowed scholarship
in 1995 in memory of his wife, Mae. Her lifelong
love of music, especially vocal performance,
inspired Mr. Kaplitz to create this scholarship.
Awarded to a music student active in the University’s
choral organizations and demonstrating financial
need. |
| Albert James Kline Scholarship |
Eleanor A. Kline created this scholarship
in 1977 in honor of her son, an avid athlete.
The scholarship is awarded to a junior with
a GPA of 3.0 or better who has made an outstanding
contribution to college life and to the college
community through leadership in extracurricular
activities. |
| Howard S. Kniffin Endowed Scholarship |
Barbara Kniffin Lapp established this scholarship
in memory of her late husband, Howard S. Kniffin,
and in recognition of the achievements of
their son, Charles E. Kniffin ’76, during
his student years at Eastern. It is awarded
to sophomores or juniors who have demonstrated
excellence in an independent study in their
major fields. |
| The Konover Endowed Scholarship |
This scholarship is designated to support
students majoring in Social Work, who are
from the Hartford area and enrolled full-time
at Eastern. Recipient(s) should remain in
good standing at the University. |
| The Earle M. Lacey Scholarship |
Family, friends and classmates of Earle
M. Lacey, a 1951 education alumnus of Eastern
Connecticut State University, established
this scholarship in 1999. This endowed fund
is awarded annually to a student majoring
in education at Eastern who works to improve
the lives of those in economically challenged
communities. The recipient must be in good
academic standing and demonstrate financial
need. |
| Ellen L. Lang Endowed Scholarship |
Ellen L. Lang ’81 and James E. Watson, M.D.
established this endowed fund on December
3, 1998 to honor/recognize older, non-traditional
students returning to Eastern to obtain an
undergraduate degree. All candidates must
be in solid academic standing. |
| Lauter-Greer-Flanzer Scholarship |
Joseph A. Flanzer and the Lauter-Greer Foundation
established this scholarship in 1987 in remembrance
of Philip Lauter and Josephine Lauter Greer.
Two scholarships are awarded each year: the
first to an incoming student who placed in
the top 20 percent of his or her graduating
class and who has a combined SAT score of
1,000 or better; the second to a continuing
student who has a minimum 3.5 GPA. |
| Liberty Bank Foundation Scholarship |
Funded by Liberty Bank, this scholarship
is awarded to undergraduate students majoring
in business or economics and is awarded based
on financial need. |
| MassMutual Scholarship |
MassMutual established this scholarship
to assist incoming freshmen or current students
at Eastern who attended Hartford High School
and are in need of financial assistance. |
| The Mead Citizenship Award |
This award was established by Luva Mead
Hoar ’42 in October 2001 in honor of the occasion
naming the Luva Mead Hall and the Bernice
Niejadlik Hall at Eastern. This award is to
be given annually to recognize a Mead Hall
resident student, who is in good academic
and social standing, who shows concern for
others, and demonstrates excellent citizenship
and service in regard to community and humankind. |
| The Meehan & Daughters Real Estate and Development
Endowed Scholarship |
William Meehan ’65/’70 and Virginia Meehan
’68 established this endowed scholarship in
1997 in honor of William J. and Irene Meehan,
and Hazel and Stanley Sheldon, Sr. It is awarded
to a junior who has a minimum GPA of 2.9,
has good academic promise, and demonstrated
need. The donors ask that the student be from
Windham, Willimantic, or surrounding areas,
majoring in education, business or English,
and have an interest in Canadian or Irish
studies. |
| Bernice Clark Niejadlik Endowed Scholarship |
Luva Mead Hoar ’42 established this endowed
scholarship in 1999 to honor the memory of
her longtime friend, Bernice “Bunny” Niejadlik.
Ms. Niejadlik graduated from Willimantic State
Normal School in 1930 and earned her bachelor’s
degree from Willimantic State Teachers College
in 1950. She was a former chair of the CSU
Board of Trustees and a past recipient of
the ECSU Alumni Association’s Distinguished
Alumni Award (1970) and the Beckert “Friends
of the University” Award (1989). This scholarship
is awarded annually to an Eastern student
majoring in education. |
| NRY Scholarship |
In 1994, this scholarship was established
to benefit future teachers as well as honor
three long-time Eastern education faculty
members—Professors Joe Narotsky, David Rand,
and Ralph Yulo. This award is made annually
to promising students in the field of education. |
| Daniel Pearl Memorial Scholarship |
In July 2002 Sheridan Vernon of Willimantic,
CT created this endowed scholarship in honor
of the late Daniel Pearl. This scholarship
is made annually to an Eastern student in
good academic and community standing, majoring
in communications or political science, with
an interest in international affairs. |
| David and Janet Philips Endowed Scholarship |
The family of the late David and Janet Philips,
along with friends and colleagues, established
this endowed scholarship in recognition of
the Philips family’s long association with
the University. David Philips taught at Eastern
for 28 years until his retirement in 1990.
The Philips family includes many Eastern graduates.
The scholarship is awarded annually to an
English major, based on academic achievement
and distinction within the field of English. |
| Post/Zipkin Endowed Scholarship |
This endowed scholarship was established
in 1990 out of the estates of Anna Zipkin
Post, class of ’12 and Frank and Katrina Post.
The purpose is to establish a scholarship
to help needy students whose primary goal
is to become teachers. |
| The Franklin and Edith Prague Centennial
Scholarship |
Edith Prague ’65 and the late Franklin Prague,
longtime Eastern benefactors, established
this endowed scholarship in 1989 at the time
of Eastern Connecticut State University’s
centennial anniversary. |
| The Virginia and Charles Prewitt Peace and
Human Rights Studies Endowment |
This endowed fund was established in 2002
and the scholarship will be awarded to a student
in good academic and community standing and
who has an active interest and concern in
relation to Peace and Human Rights. |
| Pedro Rivas-Diaz Memorial Fund |
Eastern Connecticut State University’s Modern
Languages Department and the Nu Chi Chapter
of Sigma Delta Pi established this fund in
1997 as a tribute to Pedro Rivas-Diaz, the
department’s first chairperson, who was instrumental
in the growth of the department’s library
collection of Latino books and films. |
| Kathleen W. Roan Endowed Scholarship |
This scholarship was established by Kay
in 2007 for students attending Eastern in
good academic standing with financial need.
Kay has volunteered countless hours to non-profits
in Willimantic and is one of the longest standing
members of the ECSU Foundation Inc. Board
of Directors. |
| The Rogers Endowed Teaching Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 2000
by Eastern's Professor Emerita Mary C. Rogers.
Awarded to a junior in any undergraduate major
preparing to teach in elementary or middle
school (grades 1 through 9), and with a course
concentration in the sciences. |
| David M. Roth Memorial Scholarship |
In 1985, this endowed scholarship was established
in remembrance of David M. Roth, renowned
Connecticut historian and Eastern history
professor of 23 years. It is awarded to a
junior history or history and social science
major demonstrating distinguished academic
performance and leadership. |

| Tammy E. Schaeffer Memorial Endowed Scholarship |
Established in 2006 to honor Tammy Schaeffer,
a 1990 Eastern graduate whose passion in life
was the Spanish language and culture. The
recipient must be a promising student with
financial need, in good academic standing
and planning to study abroad in a Spanish
speaking country. |
| Scholarship for Entrepreneurial Creativity |
This scholarship award is given to a junior
or senior taking BUS 351, Advanced Business
Concepts & Entrepreneurial Applications, in
the spring and fall of consecutive years.
Top ranked students in both sections will
be considered for nomination by the course
instructor(s). Consideration will be given
to their past academic, performance, commitment
to his/her studies, a demonstrated financial
need, and creativity and innovation in business. |
| The George Shafer- Frederick Noble Endowed
Scholarship |
Established in 1953 by the ECSU Alumni Association
of Willimantic State Teachers College, this
endowed scholarship honors Dr. George H. Shafer
and Dr. Frederick R. Noble for their years
of service to Eastern. It is awarded to in-state,
full-time undergraduates on the basis of academic
merit, financial need, and community involvement.
Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.7. |
| Miriam E. Silcox Scholarship |
Miriam E. Silcox, a 1930 graduate of the
Willimantic Normal School, who passed away
in April 2001, created this scholarship in
1980. It is awarded to sophomores and juniors
participating in extracurricular activities
and/or community service who have a minimum
GPA of 3.0, distinction within a field of
study, and financial need. |
| Sodexo Scholarship |
Sodexo created this scholarship in 1999.
It is awarded to current Eastern students
demonstrating academic achievement and unmet
financial need. |
| Student Government Association Scholarship
|
Funded by the Student Government Association,
this scholarship is awarded to a student with
a GPA of 2.7 or above, who is active in extra-curricular
activities and/or service to the University. |
| Nancy K. Sulinski Scholarship |
This endowed scholarship was established
in 1998 in memory of Nancy K. Sulinski ’76
by Michael McLaughlin and the family of Nancy
K. Sulinski. It is awarded each year to a
student in good standing entering his or her
senior year and majoring in mathematics, preferably
with an interest in attending graduate school. |
| Edmund J. Sullivan, M.D. Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 2003
by Joy Goff in memory of her father, Edmund
J. Sullivan, M.D. It is awarded to a student
majoring in any of the sciences with a minimum
GPA of 3.0 and demonstrating financial need. |
| Elizabeth A. Thomas Endowed Scholarship |
The recipient of this award will be a non-traditional
sociology student who is a single mother preferably
from Bozrah, CT. If a student can not be identified
who meets the criteria, a single mother with
need may receive this award. |
| Betty R. Tipton Memorial Scholarship |
The family and friends of Betty R. Tipton
established this fund in 1999 in memory of
Mrs. Tipton and the years of service that
she gave to the University. The scholarship
is awarded to students who show promise and
financial need. |
| Traveler’s Award Scholarship Endowment Fund |
This endowed scholarship was established
by the Travelers Foundation in 1998. It is
awarded to Eastern students who demonstrate
financial need and are graduates of Hartford
area high schools. |
| Ann and Kenneth Tucker Scholarship |
Barbara M. Tucker, Professor of History
and Director of the David M. Roth Center,
established this endowed scholarship in November
2000 for Connecticut Studies. It is awarded
to a full-time student in financial need who
has completed 45 credits at Eastern, is a
History or History/Social Sciences major,
has completed five History courses at Eastern,
and has a minimum GPA of 3.25. |
| United Technologies Endowed Scholarship |
United Technologies Corporation established
this scholarship in 1999. It is designated
for graduates of Hartford public schools majoring
in mathematics, science, or technology and
demonstrating financial need. |
| Rosalie Vernon Memorial Scholarship |
Sheridan Vernon established this endowed
award in 1995 in memory of his mother, Rosalie
Vernon. It is awarded annually to an Eastern
biology major in good academic standing, and
demonstrated financial need. The recipient
should have an interest in attending medical
school. |
| The Sidney Vernon, M.D. Endowed Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 2000
by Sheridan Vernon of Willimantic, CT. It

for a student studying physical science, biology,
pre-professional programs or biochemistry,

This scholarship was established in 2004
by Dawn Brolin, in memory of her brother,
Randy D. Walmsley, Jr. It is awarded to a
senior or graduate student majoring in psychology,
although this scholarship may also be awarded
to a senior or graduate student majoring in
biology, and demonstrating financial need. |

Former Eastern President Charles Webb and
his wife, Andree, established this fund in
1999 on the occasion of the naming of Charles
R. Webb Hall on the Eastern campus. |
| The Hans Weiss Visual Arts Award |
Hans Weiss, friend of Eastern and artist/proprietor
of the Fine Arts Studio & Gallery in Manchester,
and the members of the ECSU Foundation Board
of Directors established this award in 1998.
It is awarded to a student in good academic
standing majoring in the visual arts. |

by Mr. Alfred Wilcox. It is awarded to students
in good academic standing and demonstrated

Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 2004
by the company to benefit promising students
in the field of business. The recipient must
demonstrate financial need. The preferred
recipient is a business major who has demonstrated
leadership qualities and good citizenship,
and is in good academic standing. |

Established in 1997 by Dr. Virginia W. Lowney
and family members, this endowed scholarship
commemorates Dr. Lowney’s parents, who were
avid supporters of education. This scholarship
is awarded to a full time junior/senior with
financial need who is involved in student
clubs and community service/activities |
| WTIC/Perry Ury Scholarship |
The David T. Chase Family and The Ten Eighty
Corporation established this scholarship in
honor of retired Ten Eighty President Perry
Ury. It is awarded to a junior who is majoring
in business administration or economics, and
who has demonstrated achievement, leadership,
and potential for success. |

This award was established for a deserving
minority student. |
| Frances Karlyn Zittel Endowed Award |
This award was established in 1999 through
a bequest from the estate of the late Captain
Karl O. A. Zittel, USCG-Ret. This bequest
established an endowment in memory of the
captain’s daughter, Frances Karlyn Zittel,
who predeceased him. This award will be used
to support scholarship assistance for students
pursuing a degree in the field of education,
as well as for other programs that foster
success for current Eastern students. |
