Q: What's new at Eastern?

A: Eastern Connecticut State University (Eastern) is a comprehensive university that is part of the Connecticut State University System. Located in Willimantic, Eastern continues to offer a classic undergraduate liberal arts and science curriculum and distinctive professional and master's degree programs. Founded in 1889, the institution is now attended by approximately 5,113 full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students.

Our students hail from over 20 countries and 26 states, as well as 155 towns and cities in Connecticut. The wooded 178-acre residential campus features 50 buildings, including a magnificent, super-high-tech library; a clock tower welcoming guests through the High Street entrance to the campus; a new residential village, a new Child + Family Development Resource Center. A new Science Center currently under construction will be opened in a year and will be the largest facility on campus.

The student:faculty ratio is only 16:1, and 32 undergraduate majors and 41 minors are available. More than 70% of our students receive some sort of financial assistance, and we now have more than 23,000 alumni of record.

Q: Why does Eastern need my support?

A: Although we indeed have a great deal of construction underway on the campus, these projects are funded by capital project funds. The operating appropriation from the state is now 41% of our actual annual operating costs, down from 75% in 1987.

Q: What's the Annual Fund?

A: The Eastern Connecticut State University's Annual Fund is the University's yearly program that seeks unrestricted gifts to help support the ongoing needs of the university, in addition to gifts specifically designated toward endowment, academic projects, library and laboratory resources and scholarships.

Q: How can I contribute?

A: You are contacted by telephone by paid student callers and/or by mail each year. You can make a pledge to the Annual Fund to be paid by June 30, or make your gift immediately, whether it be by check, money order, VISA, MasterCard or transfer of stock. Please give as generously as you can.

Q: Where does my Annual Fund gift go?

A: Gifts to the Annual Fund benefit CURRENT Eastern initiatives by providing the resources that cannot be funded by state assistance, tuition or fees. Such initiatives include library and educational supplies, laboratory resources, student enrichment programs, and support to academic divisions and departments.

Q: Can my gift to Eastern be matched?

A: Yes. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs that can double or even triple your contribution to Eastern. Request a form from your personnel or public affairs office, and send it to us with your contribution. If you have questions concerning matching gifts, call Eastern's Office of Institutional Advancement at (860) 465-5267.
Q: Can I set up a scholarship in honor of or in memory of a friend or family member?

A: Yes, individuals can set up endowed scholarships with a minimum pledge of $10,000 that can be fulfilled over a four-year time period. Temporarily restricted scholarships can be set up with a minimum gift of $1,500. In FY06, Eastern studentts received over $150,000 in Competitive Scholarship support from the ECSU Foundation, the most dollars ever awarded in this process.

Q: Will I receive recognition?

A: All contributors to the Annual Fund are listed in the Annual Report of Donors. Leadership gifts receive additional recognition through the following gift clubs:
