RENDERING OF NEW SCIENCE BUILDING
Eastern's new Science Building will be a six-story, 173,509 square-foot facility that will house the Biology, Environmental Earth Sciences, Math and Computer Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Sustainable Energy Departments. It will be constructed in the heart of campus between Webb Hall, J.E. Smith Library and the new South Residential Village. It will contain new classrooms, multiple laboratories, conference rooms, administrative offices, green houses, and a 147-seat state-of-the-art lecture hall.
The S/L/A/M Collaborative is the architect of record for this building. O&G Industries is the general contractor responsible for constructing the project which began in Fall 2005. It is expected to be complete by April 2008.
Since the start of the project this past fall, the contractor has been excavating for the massive foundation required for such a large building. The contractor is required to excavate approximately 20-feet of earth in order to construct the footings and foundation. The picture below proivdes and excellent perspective of the massive excavation required.
Winter 2007 Update: Below are recent photos of the science building. The project has progressed significantly since the fall of 2005. The primary structure is constructed and a majority of the brick facade has been installed. The floors have also been poured. The minimal snow this winter has allowed the contractor to continue through the winter on this project with minimal delays.
