Placement Testing
The placement test is an essay you write that will help determine the appropriate first writing course for you. Other factors that are considered are your SAT verbal score and rank in high school but this essay is the most important factor. After the English Department has reviewed your essay you will be placed into one of three courses:
  • ENG 100 P, College Writing Plus: for students who need more preparation for writing at a college level. Five credits towards graduation; meets ECSU's initial stage writing requirement.
  • ENG 100, College Writing: a freshman-level expository writing course. Three credits. Meets ECSU's initial stage writing requirement.
  • ENG 200, Reading & Writing Argument: a sophomore-level course in the analysis and writing of arguments. Three credits. Meets ECSU's initial stage writing requirement and, if passed with a B or better, the second-stage requirement as well.
