Environmental Earth Science Department
Eastern Connecticut State University
The GIS Interdisciplinary Minor
Dr. Roy Wilson, Coordinator

Objectives
  • Give students the ability to apply spatial analysis principles to their individual disciplines.
  • Teach students that an integrated approach to environmental problems is a key to solutions.
  • Give students the opportunity to apply these principles to an individual problem by integrating the knowledge gained in environmental earth science, biology, and computer science courses.

Program Description
A Geographic Information System stores, analyzes and displays spatially oriented data to improve decision-making. The key to the rapid growth of GIS in the resource management field is its ability to integrate data and to model complex physical processes. Environmental scientists are using it for applications such as environmental impact analysis, hydrological modeling, and biodiversity studies. The objective of the minor is to enable the student to apply spatial analysis principles to their academic discipline.
The minor consists of a minimum of 17 credit hours. 9 of these hours must be unique to the minor.

Requirements for the minor include all:
EES 340 Geographic Information Systems
4 credits
EES 342 Advanced Geographic Information Systems
