will research the insect of their choice-- collecting information and photos.
Teacher will provide
them
with a list of what information needs to be included in their final insect
report and detailed instructions
regarding
how that information is to be organized. Students will be responsible
for producing a final report,
using
microsoft word 97, following the specified format and providing the required.

Instruction in use of Microsoft
word 97. Instruction given regarding the common questions
and problems
encountered
by students.
Lesson #5 2 hours in class
Students
continue their research, recording required information on the form they
created. Students to finish
this
report @ home.
Lesson # 6

Instruction
in use of Microsoft Power Point 97. Students to begin creating
a 10-12 slide presentation on
their
insect-- highlighting the key points they intend to discuss and incorporation
relevant graphics found on
the
internet.
Lesson # 7

Continue
with power point instruction. Students collaborate with peers and teacher
to handle problems
encountered.
Lesson # 8
2 hours in class
homework ( as needed for students to complete both assignments)
Students
finalize written report and power point presentation. Students that
finish early will assist students

needed help.

Students
present their findings through their power point presentation and through
information gathered on
their
reports.

Materials:
One computer, equipped with Microsoft Word 97, per student
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to organize researched information
using computer processing skills.
To include alignment, spacing, font, spelling and grammar check, editing
and revision,
consistency throughout their document and saving work on disc.
2. Students will become familiar with the components of a well
organized report, including
title page, table of contents, introduction, body of research -- with appropriate
references, conclusion and bibliography.
Procedure:
1. Students will be given a handout that provides a visual
reference to what their report is
to contain and how it will be formatted. Teacher will review this
with students.
2. Students will be given a reference sheet on how to
perform the required skills with
Microsoft Word 97. Teacher will review this with students.
3. Teacher will use computer with large screen projection
to instruct and guide students
through these skill.
Assessment:
Assessment will be based on students production of specified format, which
requires
the use of the aforementioned skills.
