  1. as one of the foci of the liberal arts college - John Dewey (1916) Democracy and Education - concept of the school as the center of the community - just as the university may be the center of the community, teacher education as a central element of a liberal arts education;  
  2. as a guide for appropriate learning strategies for teaching - insights from Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle Level and Secondary Education;  
  3. as a model for integrated curriculum leading to greater conversation in a liberal arts college; secondary education model of knowledge and educational practice

  6. as a laboratory for educational innovation - Faculty Training and Development Lab; Center for Teaching; and  
  7. as a sacred space where the college touches the future through the development and nurturing of learners/teachers - teachers as lifelong researchers - in the evolution of education as a profession and for the ongoingimprovement of society.
