Welcome to the Summer Institute for Future Teachers website!

This program is partially sponsored by the Title II grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants Program, Title II of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, through Connecticut State Department of Education. This project is funded by a Connecticut State Department of Education Interdistrict Grant to the Capitol Region Education Council, Hartford, CT.

Purpose

This course is designed for students who are considering education as a field of study and ultimately, teaching as a profession. Students will be exposed to a number of educational philosophies and theoretical frameworks. Lesson planning, learning styles, classroom management and creating a positive learning environment will also be addressed.

Students will have the opportunity to experience early childhood, elementary and middle level education through various field placements. These experiences are intended to help students in selecting a grade level of preference when the time comes. Students will also be exposed to a variety of academic disciplines through guest speakers. Ultimately, students will obtain a systematic body of knowledge from which they can develop a repertoire of teaching practices to meet the learning needs of students with diverse learning styles, developmental needs and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
