Important Opening Week Dates - from the VP-AA's Office
"First, the University Convocation is scheduled for Wednesday, August
25, at
4:00 p.m. in the courtyard between the J. Eugene Smith Library and
Charles R.
Webb Hall (rain location: Geissler Gymnasium, Sports Center).
As Convocation
is attended by new students and their parents, your participation is
most
important in reinforcing a sense of community at the University.
Immediately following Convocation, the incoming Class of 2003 will process
through the Clock Tower, toss a coin into the fountain, and "Make a
Wish" as
they symbolically "Enter" the University. Faculty and staff are
invited to
form a reception line along the sidewalk in front of the library through
which
the incoming class will process. A barbecue will be held behind
Webb Hall
after the Entering Tradition.
Second, the Fall University Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August
26, at
10:00 a.m., in the Betty R. Tipton Room of the Student Center.
Refreshments
will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, the President's Picnic will be held in the courtyard between
the Smith
Library and Webb Hall (rain location: Hurley Hall) on August
30, from 5:00 to
6:30 p.m. The picnic is open to students, faculty and staff,
at no charge.
Your participation in meeting and greeting our new and returning students
and

Research Project in Developing
Online Courses for PK-12 Schools
Seeking a diverse group of ten PK-12 teachers, representing a variety of grades and subjects taught, to develop collaboratively month-long courses that they would plan to implement in their classrooms during the 1999-2000 academic year. These courses would focus on a curricular topic that would be enriched through the integration of at least 100 links to websites woven into the course’s narrative and activities for learning. This project will examine the factors influencing the effectiveness of curriculum supported by web-based resources.
Qualifications: experience teaching in a PK-12 school, coursework in curriculum development. Willingness to develop in webpage development.
Participants will receive a stipend of $300. They may either work on their own with collaboration with the project director via email or attend workshops during July 1999 at ECSU. They may also earn graduate credit for their participation by enrolling in an oncampus or online educational technology workshop.
