Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Faculty and Staff News
Paulette Mares is taking a medical leave of absence from January 15,
1999 to Februrary 1, 1999. Paulette
had surgery on Jan. 15 and will be recuperating at home during the
following two weeks. Our thoughts
are with her during this time of recovery.
Lorie Griffin will be staffing the Education Department office during
Paulette's absence. Ms. Griffin is a
graduate of Morse School of Business and has much experience as a medical
assistant and receptionist.
Please welcome Lorie to the department.
Winter Institute for Future Teachers - Highly Successful, Despite the Weather
The 2nd annual Winter Institute for Future Teachers convened on Saturday,
January 9, 1999 from 9 am to
4 pm in the Classroom Building. Over 83 high schools students,
their teachers, and parents from
throughout Connecticut participated in 16 workshops in "A Taste of
the Teaching Profession."
Sponsored by the Capitol Region Education Council's Minority Teacher
Recruitment Program and the
Education Department at ECSU, and organized by Education Dept. faculty
members Elsy Negron-Wrang, David Stoloff, Debbie Salih, and Jesse Turner,
Carole Mulready, CREC's Director of the
Minority Teacher Recruitment Program, undergraduates and graduate students
in Ed. Dept. programs,
and returning Summer Institute for Future Teacher students, the conference
featured workshops on
Teaching with Passion
Hot Rods
Early Years are Learning Years
Responding through the Arts to Children's Literature
Who's in the Mirror
WWW for Future Teachers
Ho-Hum Crashers
Multicultural Voices

The conference was a day of learning and fun for people interested in teaching and learning.

The University Grants Committee invites full-time faculty to apply for
a grant under Article 9.10 of the CSU-AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Grant applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 16, 1999
to the campus representative listed in the guidelines, which may be
found at
