A message on NCATE from Dean Kleine.
The NCATE Unit Accreditation Board is meeting to consider the accreditation of colleges/universities, including Eastern Connecticut State University, today (Friday, March 26) through Sunday in Salt Lake City. I am not certain where Eastern is on the agenda, but Salt Lake City is certainly on mine.
Have a great weekend.
Following is a
message of thanks from Dean Kleine.
****************************************************************************************************************************************
The last document needing to be sent to NCATE, Eastern's rejoinder to the Board of Examiners Report, left the Office of the Dean at 3:55 p.m., March 9th. And now the "madness" begins. Eastern's accreditation status will be voted upon by the NCATE Unit Accreditation Board the weekend of March 26th-28th.
Considerable credit must be given to Shirley Ernst, Ingrid Enniss, Tuesday Cooper, Pat Kucharski, Kevin Gill, Nick Lacy, and, most especially, Hari Koirala. Thank you's also to the four educators -Jennifer S. Emerson, Maureen Adams,Cathleen Ober, and Dorothy Drobney-who gave us materials to document their excellent work with students. And kudos to all of us for preparing an excellent institutional report which made the rejoinder so much easier.
It is my extreme pleasure to work with all of
you.

Future Teachers
Conference - March 25, 2004 at Eastern CSU - Preliminary Report
Nearly 800 students and teachers participated
in the Future Teachers Conference on March 25, 2004. Representing
52 schools from 35 schools districts - including Waterbury, Bridgeport,
Hartford, New Haven, New Britain, New London, and Windham, these
students participated in over 25 morning and afternoon workshop

also featured a College Fair with 18 Connecticut colleges and
universities, campus tours led by the Education Club, and keynote
presentations by President David Carter and Dr. Constance Belton Green
from Eastern and Mr. Steve Merlino, Assistant Principal at Windham High
School. Dean Patricia Kleine presented awards for the best club
banners, posters, and displays.
Much thanks go to
Barbara Tatro from CREC, Ellen Dalton from LEARN, Jackie Chorney from
ACES, the staffs of Eastern's food services and facilities, the
Education Club lead by Katie Balkan and Maureen Morse, and the

Message from Dean Kleine on the
4th Annual Excellence Expo:
The 4th Annual Excellence Expo will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Tri-fold poster boards are now available (AKA free) to all students preparing posters. Students will be able to pick up their poster boards in each of the academic department offices after March 31st.
In an effort to better coordinate presentations/poster sessions/displays/etc., the Office of the Dean will be preparing a program book with specific times and locations for all presentations, which will include individual student and student team presentations. Please send your list with name(s), title, and type of presentation for each of the students you have selected to represent "excellence" to Pat Kucharski no later than Friday, April 2, 2004. We need to create a draft copy of the Expo program by Wednesday, April 7th so adherence to the April 2nd deadline will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
5) Campus Connections 2004: A four-campus assessment conference,
Southern CT State University, Friday, April 30, 2004. Please
contact David Stoloff for information if you are interested in
attending.

News
relayed by Leah Barbuto from Genny Christensen (Wald):
Hi
Leah,
Just thought I would write and say hi! I am still at Dwight
School teaching
Kindergarten Special Ed in Hartford. I absolutely love it this
year! My
Best portfolio is coming along pretty good, it's a lot of work!
Thank you for
preparing me for my career - I could not have done it without your
support. I
would also like to thank Shirley, Diane, and Anne, if you could pass
this
along to them!!
I also thought I would let you know that I got married last Feb. to Rob
before he left for Iraq - he will be coming home this Saturday after 13
months; we are having the official wedding this July so it will be
exciting.
I am starting my masters this fall either at Mitchell College, they
started
a new masters program. I am also looking into Eastern and
Central. I would
like to either complete my masters in Special Ed or Reading and
Literacy!
Well... Thanks you so much for all you did for me at Eastern. I
will see
you next time you visit my school!!
Thank
you Genny Christensen (Wald)
