1) Thirty-nine high school
students are expected for the Institute for Future Teachers Using Technology,
starting on Sunday, June 22 and ending with a showcase of projects on Friday,
June 27. Our colleagues, Drs. Tannahill, Gomez, and Chibeau and Ms. Michele
Ridolfi, an alumnae of our middle level program will be the section faculty.
They will be assisted by Mr. Kevin Saucier, Ms. Kasha Topa,
Ms. Christine Guarnieri, Ms. Anne DePaula-Vasbinder, and Ms. Lourdes Agosto.
Topics that will be covered on the theme
of Living, Learning and Educational Technology in a Pluralistic World will
include computer applications, video production, writing for the media, and
professional presentations.
Please let us know if you have
any questions about our program.
2) Message
from Dean Kleine -
"You did it!!! Eastern’s
history/social studies program has been recommended for national accreditation
by NCSS! "
Special congratulations
to Dr. Leslie Ricklin and Dean Kleine for all of their efforts in making
this dream possible.
3) The Summer
Institute for Future Teachers has accepted 30 high school students for
the program based on EDU 101 - Teaching in the 21st Century seminar, from
July 7- 25. Theresa Picard plans to present a workshop on literacy resources.
Please let David know if you would like to also present during the institute.
4) The Reading/Language
Arts clinic will be at

Graduate News
Dan Rothermel reports that Christina
Cody, from our penultimate class of middle school teacher candidates, will
be teaching 8th grade Reading / Language Arts at Saint Marys Middle School
in Saint Marys, Camden County school system, Georgia.
Dan and Mitch Sakofs also report that Heather Scorca, who just completed her student teaching in core III secondary, has a position at Bolton Middle School.
Mitch Sakofs and Dan Rothermel
report that Christine Kendall (secondary English) will be teaching 8th grade
language arts at Carmen Arace Middle School in Bloomfield, CT.
Mitch Sakofs reports that Caragh O'Brien was offered a position in Sec
English in Tolland.
Mitch Sakofs reports that Kathy Rosen has been asked to teach summer
school at Mohegan Elementary School.
Dan Rothermel, Jeanelle Bland, and Mitch Sakofs report that Vicenza Benoit that she has just been hired in South Carolina
as a 4th gr classroom teacher in the Varennes Elementary School, Anderson
District 5 Schools, Anderson, South Carolina, Dr. Mary Paul, Principal.

for Tomorrow's Teachers Projects
Faculty members and students from
Eastern Connecticut State University are participating in a US Department
of Education grant to Prepare Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology with
ThinkQuest

Sixth Report

Results of the Open House – Sunday,
October 20, 2002
Leslie Ricklin, Richard Reynolds,
Delar Singh, Cathy Tannahill, and Ingrid Enniss and David Stoloff met
over 121 students interested in coming to Eastern for teacher certification
on Sunday, October 20, 2002 at the Fall 2002 University Open House.
The majority expressing interest
in elementary education (68), early childhood education (17), secondary
education (24), special education (3), and middle level (2), with the
remainder uncertain.
Another 15 students/family may not
have signed in but received information about the programs. The information
