Lesson Plans for Biology Class:
Differences Between Frogs and Toads

Grade Level:  Fourth Grade

Subject:  Differences between frogs and toads.

Objectives:  To have the students learn how to use the different search engines while they are          learning the difference between frogs and toads, to come up with at least ten differences.

Purpose:  To familiarize the students with the internet and various search engines.

Student Arrangement:  Work in the Computer room or library, supervised by the teacher.  Extra credit can be received by doing work at home.

Time Allotment:  Three class periods.  First introduction to the web.  Second class is used for searching and the third class is used for typing the information received from the web.

Procedure:
1.  The students will go to the computer lab to begin the lesson.
2.  They will log onto the computers and wait for instruction on how to get into Netscape.
3.  They will be giving five specific search engines to use to look up frogs and toads (Excite.com, yahoo.com, yahoolagins.com,  infoseek.com, and dogpile.com).
4.  They will compose a list of the web sites they used to be checked by the teacher.
5.  They will then go into word processor to type the ten differences they found on the web and the sites in which they used.
6.  They are then to present the information they found to the class by either visual, story, or facts written on poster board, the student are encouraged to be creative and to have fun with the lesson.

Assessment:  Students will reach the objective when they complete the list of web sites, the printed out page of differences and when they present to the class.
