Pick you Favorite Author

Objective-To allow the students to use the Internet to access information about their favorite author after reading their favorite book by them.  It also allows them to use the computer to write their brief
summary on the author

Materials- A favorite author picked out, their favorite book by them, a computer which has access tot he Internet.

Grade Level- 5th grade

Duration- After the students have read the book they have 1-2 weeks to research and write a 1-3 page paper about their author which they will present to the class.

Pre-requisite- The students will have to have read a book before researching.

Procedure-
1. The students will read a book by their favorite author/ they will read      their favorite book
2. After that they will research the author on the Internet and any     comments on the book they read. (They may use search engines as     yahoo, excite, dogpile, yahooligans etc.)
3. After they have researched enough information they will type a 1-3    page paper on their findings.  Along with the paper they will have a list    of internet sites they used to find information.
4. Once they have typed their paper they will present their paper to the     class.

Closure- The students will be assessed on their paper and the quality of their paper and information that they received off the internet.
