Stafford Conservation Commission

Established 1969

The Stafford Conservation Commission meets every third Thursday of the month except August. The public is always welcome to attend these meetings. We meet at the Warren Memorial Town Hall seven p.m. The minutes and agenda are posted every month in the Town Clerk’s Office. Projects we are currently working on are maintaining Dennis Pond and the West Stafford Conservation and Education Area. We also have stewardship of the Renn Property. The Stafford Conservation Commission is a member of the Willimantic River Alliance.

Our Mission Statement:

    1. Work to promote sound land use practices in conjunction with other town, county and state agencies and commissions. Provide input to town planning to ensure open space and advise on land use issues. Be an active presence and partner with the Inland Wetlands Commission, the Connecticut Greenways project and Tolland Agricultural Commission.
    2. Increase public awareness of the ecology. Support the distribution of educational materials to schools, sponsor seminars and hikes. Have rotating projects including but not limited to sponsoring Arbor Day planting, distributing bluebird house, and Summerfest. Involve groups such as scouts, 4-H, fish & game clubs and other private conservation groups in conservation commission efforts.
    3. Promote public works projects to encourage outdoor activity. These include fish stocking, bird raising, picnic tables, hiking/nature trails. Work with the public works department to promote hazardous waste collection, recycling and composting.
    4. Map and index all town and state owned land. Map all wetlands and open space, both public and privately owned. This is to be updated periodically.
