Uss Puge Sound AD-38 Sixth Fleet Flag Ship

Welcome to Richard's Ramblings

I recently decided to try and remember the different ports I have visisted and make them available to those who are interested in traveling without leaving home. The Panama Canal, http://www.ared.com/kora/java/pcc/javaani.html was one of the great wonders of the world, it took a full day to transit. Honolulu http://honolulu.areaguides.net/  was a great place to go swimming and watch the hula dancers. Our next port was very small  http://www.visitguam.org/  but we had a good time snorkling. Vietnam  http://www.alexander.k12.ny.us/vietnam/  was next on our trip and from the sea the shoreline was very lush, with overgrown vegetation. Subic Bay  http://www.subicnet.com/index.html in the Philappines gave us some much needed rest and relaxation after being at sea for seventy days in a row. We were sent back out after about six days to do search and rescue in the South China Sea. After thirty days we headed for Hong Kong for a four day liberty  http://www.asiadragons.com/hong_kong/ , another asian port we went to was Sasebo  http://www.cfas.navy.mil/overview.htm.  On our way back the United States our ship got an opportunity to visit Brisbane, Australia and Nelson, New Zealand  http://www.dstc.edu.au/cgi-bin/redirect/rd.cgi?http://archive.dstc.edu.au/brisbane/ , and  http://www.nelson.co.nz/index.htm  great people in both places. I was then transfered to Scotland http://home.rednet.co.uk/homepages/jmack/jmack.html  where I spent four years and got married in the process. I was in England for a time ttp://www.cfhs.demon.co.uk/Society/colummi.html I spent three years sailing around the Med. while being homeported out of Gaeta, Itlay  http://www.venere.it/lazio/gaeta/serapo/enoff.htm. I will leave you now to let your imagination run wild as to what is waiting in the countries surrounded by the warm blue waters of the Med. Of course I could not leave without letting you explore two of my most favorite ports. http://www.olivebranch.com/isreal/haifa.htm and  http://dubrovnik.laus.hr/ , well have fun.
