Catalog Description:
 
Designed as an introduction to the people, offices,  programs, and services at Eastern Connecticut State University.  Seminar discussions will include career planning, academic program development, and strategies for success at the university.

Course Schedule:  June 23 - August 2, 2001, Webb Hall 110, 3:30 - 4:45

 
Course Objectives:    By the end of the semester, students will:

1.    Identify key university community members who would serve as valuable resources as they pursue their academic career at ECSU;

2.    Further develop their goals for their studies and experiences at ECSU;

 
3.    Create a first-draft of their four-year academic plan;
 
4.    Prepare with success strategies for the first semester at ECSU.
 
 Course Evaluation:

1.    By the end of the first week (June 28) – a list of ten questions that participants would like to ask the upcoming guest speakers.(10 points)

 
2.    An essay due at the beginning of the second week (Monday, July 2) on what skills participants would wish to develop during the summer program to help prepare them for the first year at ECSU. (10 points)
 
3.    An essay due at the end of the third week (July 13) discussing potential career options for the participants and how university resources would support  them as they achieve their goals. (25 points)
 
4.    A first-draft academic plan with a list of General Education, major, and minor courses, due by July 27. (30 points)
 
5.    Active participation in the seminar - about 1 point per session. (25 points)
