* About CARE - The Committee for Admission and Retention in Education (CARE) is an academic faculty committee that includes a representative from each of the certification programs offered at Eastern -

Physical Education, PreK12;

Integrated Early Childhood/Special Ed., N-K, Elem. 1-3 (as known as Early Children Education or ECE);

Elementary, K - 6; and

Secondary, 7 - 12

- and the department chair from the Education Department or designee, and the department chair from the Health and Physical Education Department or designee. The Coordinator of Educational Experiences and the University Assistant for CARE are nonvoting members. CARE's concerns include overseeing the admissions process for these certification programs, deliberating on the admissions decisions, developing and revising policies on this admissions process, coordinating the gathering of information for the CARE files, and deliberating on retention issues, including leaves of absences, dismissals, and readmission processes. CARE delegates to the faculty members within the certification programs the authority to recommend the substitution and waiver of courses and the selection of teacher candidates for outstanding student teacher awards. CARE will make a final decision based on the recommendation of program faculty for the reduction of student teaching experiences.  The University Assistant for CARE is a nonvoting member of CARE and serves as its secretary. Each fall or when necessary, CARE elects a Chair from its membership.
