Perhaps as many as eight out of every ten teachers who do not return after their first year of teaching drop out because they are unable to control their pupils in the classroom.
This is a very good article because it is easy to read and gets right
to the point. The article talks about three things that are essential
to have control in the classroom and ensuring that discipline is maintained.
The three areas that the author talks about are 1) Authority, 2)
Climate and 3) Discipline in Love. I would have to
say that this first area is the most important and the author begins this
section of the article by stating that. As far as the second area is concerned
I feel it goes with out saying that the classroom surrounding is essential
to learning and classroom mood. The author of the article states this same
belief with the following quote, "Along with quiet, firm sense of authority,
there must be a warm, nurturing climate in the classroom." The third area
is often the hardest to provide on a daily basis but is just as essential
as the others. The author of the article speaks of "discipline in
love" in religious terms, which I am neither proposing or opposing.
I do believe that some sort of love for the students is needed, a caring
if you will. The article goes on to discuss ways of implementing
discipline and is a good source of information, but not the be all end
all.

This is a great article and tool. It is broken down into several
categories from a crash course on HTML to education reforms in the 21st
century. The article discusses kids and computers and goes on to
list sites that give examples of useful software to how teachers can make
use of older computers. This site is also full of lists of other
useful sites for questions or specific topics such as History and Historiography,
where you can subscribe to various literature.

This is a great web site with some excellent articles, lessons and stories sent back by teachers. The words written at the beginning of the article are so important, "Teaching with computers doesn't mean abandoning successful lesson plans in favor of high-tech instruction. This article does a good job of giving examples of how teachers can incorporate the web into their lessons. One such lesson is titled Show Me The Money! In this unit the teacher goes over money with the students using coins and then puts them on computers in pairs using a program titled Coin Critters. This is a really useful sight and easy to read with information for teachers at all levels.
