Adobe Acrobat  - is becoming the universal form software.  Files end in .pdf.

Scanning Software -on Lice, the instructor workstation in CB 307.
OmniPage - optical scanning software - changes text on paper into text on computer screens.
HP DeskScan II  - for graphics.

Microsoft Access - database software package - great for mailing labels, record-keeping, ...

Microsoft Word - word processor

Microsoft Excel - spreadsheet

Microsoft Photo Editor - scanning program and editing program.

Research Databases
software that provides information

There are several examples of CD-ROMs  (compact discs - read only memory) that serve as encyclopedias - Encarta, Grolier's, and other paper encyclopedias that are now on CD.

There are online research databases.  ERIC (educational resources in circulation) is a US Department of Education supported network of clearinghouse and online databases on resources and publications in education. http://www.easternct.edu/depts/edu/textbooks/eric.html provides a list of these clearinghouses and other affiliations educational organizations.  Search ERIC Home Page is found at http://www.eric.ed.gov/;  they note that it is like a CD-ROM.

A search engine for Legislative Information on the Internet is called THOMAS,
after Thomas Jefferson.  It is located at http://thomas.loc.gov/ .
