NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION
The Center for Educational Excellence (CEE) sponsors a two-day orientation program for new full-time faculty and a one-day orientation program for adjunct faculty in late August. The two-day programs are planned and organized through the CEE, and the Office of Academic Affairs. The Adjunct Orientation program is planned through the Center, and the School of Continuing Education.
These programs include practical information about University services and professional development workshops. New faculty members continue to meet throughout the academic year for facilitated seminars on teaching effectiveness and the use of technology.
FACULTY MENTORING PROGRAM
The purpose of the Faculty Mentoring Program at Eastern is to support new faculty members by providing them with the option of having a mentor. The mentors assist faculty in their transition to the University and provide a support system throughout the academic year. Mentors offer guidance, support and information to new faculty members during their first year at Eastern. Mentoring relationships enhance the success of the new faculty members as teachers, researchers, and members of the university community and provide mentors with new ideas, insights and inspiration.
The Center assigns mentors to new faculty members. The CEE arranges for social gatherings and luncheon/breakfast meetings which offer the opportunity to gain practical knowledge essential to effective use of University services, political understanding, and discussion of ideas and current research pertaining to instructional effectiveness.
