About Counseling Services
Students can sometimes experience difficulties that undermine success in both their personal and academic lives. CAPS (Counseling & Psychological Services) at ECSU is here to help students address their concerns and to work to enhance the emotional, developmental, and relational aspects of students' health and growth. CAPS offers a full range of support services to all ECSU students. These services include individual counseling, couples counseling, psychiatric services, consultation, referral and mediation.
Our services are confidential.
Our staff is committed to make CAPS is a safe place for you. Students who come for services can expect confidentiality and privacy.
We will not share information regarding your contact or involvement with us with anyone including friends, roommates, parents, faculty or any other staff of the University. What is discussed with a counselor will stay confidential and private unless:
- You give us written permission to do otherwise
- It is a matter of saving a life or to prevent harm or injury to one's self or another
- We are specifically required by law (as in cases of ongoing child abuse or if ordered by a court)
We are conscious of the special concerns you may have, whether you are a woman, man, student of color or other ethnic minority, gay, lesbian, or bisexual, a student with limitations, or an international student. Our staff is committed to being sensitive to your issues and to promote this sensitivity within the campus community and beyond.
