Monday, February 5, 2007 EASTERN TO CELEBRATE NAT’L GIRLS IN SPORTS DAY WEDNESDAY WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State University will celebrate the 21st Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Wednesday, Feb. 7 with a variety of activities in the Sports Center. NGWSD is being celebrated this week in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies, and activities honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports. It is a special day for girls and women to celebrate their participation in sports and athletics, made possible most directly by Title IX legislation which was enacted in 1972. “Throw like a girl – Lead like a champion” is the theme this year. Eastern will celebrate the day in the Sports Center Wednesday between 7 and 9:30 p.m., the events co-sponsored by the Eastern Women’s Center and by the Student Athletic Adivisory Committee (SAAC). Listed below are the scheduled events which are free of charge to girls between the ages of 12 and 18, with the first 50 youngsters receiving T-Shirts.
