EASTERN PLANS SOFTBALL CLINICS FOR MARCH 4th & 11th Will feature general skills and pitching sessions for youngsters ages 7-through-16
A pitching and catching clinic is scheduled for Sunday, March 4 and a general skills clinic for Sunday, March 11, both beginning at 9 a.m. at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium in the SportsCenter. The pitching and catching clinic will last two hours, the general skills clinic three. The pitching and catching clinic will involve a breakdown of pitching and catching techniques, ball drills, an “introduction to the changeup,” and a simulated game and will conclude with a review and question and answer session. Involved in the general skills clinic on March 11 are sessions on throwing/receiving, ball drills, base running, hitting (toss ball, fungo, dry swings), bunting, ground balls and fly balls and position play. Youngsters should wear athletic attire, including sneakers, and bring bats, glove and water. The clinic is under the direction of Eastern head coach Diana Pepin and assistant coach Normand Pariseau. Members of this year’s team will serve as clinicians. Pepin is in her sixth season at Eastern and a former four-year player and member of Eastern’s 1990 national softball championship team. In addition to serving for the third season on the Eastern staff, Pariseau has owned and operated the Connecticut Fastpitch Academy in Ansonia for nearly ten years, was a former member of the softball coaching staffs at Stratford and Bunnell high schools and has spent many years coaching youth travel teams in the Connecticut valley. The cost of the pitching clinic is $30 per player and the cost of the general clinic is $40 per player. Make checks payable to: ECSU Foundation, Inc.
