Throughout this decade, Chris D’Ambrosio has provided the program with a vital ingredient – stability – as he enters his 11th season with the program.
During an eight-year tenure as head coach, D’Ambrosio’s teams have won 65 percent of their matches, captured two Little East Conference playoff titles, and have qualified for two NCAA and three ECAC tournaments. They are 39-7-3 in regular-season conference play in that span -- having compiled the most regular-season conference wins and sharing the best winning percentage (82.7) of all eight LEC teams in that span.
For D’Ambrosio, the fourth win of the 2008 season will mark his 100th as Eastern’s head coach. Hiss overall eight-year winning percentage of 65.0 and the 96 victories are the best and most, respectively, of all coaches in the program’s 22-year history. He has also coached more matches (157) than any other Eastern women’s soccer coach.
Under the 2001 Little East Conference Coach-of-the-Year, Eastern has been listed in the New England Top Ten poll a total of 42 times, including all 11 balloting weeks in 2004. That year, the Warriors were ranked among the national Top 25 teams five times, including a high of No. 12 after a 9-1-1 start. Last year, the Warriors were listed in all nine regional polls, breaking into the Top Ten twice. Into 2008, D’Ambrosio brings 28 years of coaching experience with men and women on the youth, high school and collegiate levels.
For 11 years through 1997, D’Ambrosio was the head women’s soccer coach at nearby Coventry High School, leading the program to Class “S” state tournament championship game berths in both his first and last seasons and into the state semifinals twice in-between. Named the Connecticut Coach-of-the-Year in his first season, D’Ambrosio won over 100 matches at Coventry.
D’Ambrosio is a 1985 graduate of St. Thomas University (FL), where he received a B.A. Degree in Sports Administration. He holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and NSCAA Goalkeeping 1 Diploma.
D’Ambrosio and wife Gina reside in Andover with sons Cooper, 13, and Carson, 12.
