Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 SIRANKO LEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK Senior right-side hitter is recognized with award for second time this year
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. –Senior right-side hitter Chrissie Siranko (DANBURY) was named Offensive Player-of-the-Week by the Little East Conference Monday for the second time this year for her volleyball performance for the week ending Oct. 16. The 5-foot-11 inch fourth-year player appeared in all nine matches in a 2-1 week and attacked at .433, leading the team in attack percentage and kills (34). In a three-game sweep of Clark, attacked at a season-high .579 with 14 kills and followed in a three-game sweep of Newbury with 13 kills and a .550 attack percentage. In the final two games against Clark, was 8-for-9 without an error. The honor is the second this season for Siranko, who becomes the first Eastern player to earn the conference’s Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor more than once in the same season since the conference instituted the award during the 2002 season. Prior to that, the conference selected only a Player-of-the-Week, rather than an Offensive and Defensive Player-of-the-Week. This year’s only fourth-year player, Siranko has appeared in 26 of 27 matches and 97 of 104 games this year for the 19-8 Warriors and leads the team in kills (.258) and attack percentage (.235) and is second in block assists (54) and total blocks (64). Eastern players have been recognized with a conference weekly award five times this year. In addition to Siranko, senior middle blocker Nicole Tassone (EAST PATCHOGUE, NY) was named Offensive Player-of-the-Week last week and on Sept. 19, junior defensive specialist Marianna Capomolla (STAMFORD) and freshman outside hitter Sandra Jaques (MILFORD) were picked as Defensive and Rookie-of-the-Week, respectively. A winner of ten of its last 11 matches, Eastern looks for its 23rd 20-win season in the last 26 seasons Wednesday when it visits Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. |
