The Theatre program offers many opportunities for students to work on-stage, backstage and front-of-house curricularly through classes, independent studies and practicum work and extra-curricularly on full-length major productions, one-acts, original plays and staged readings. We perform regularly in The Harry Hope Theatre, our state-of-the-art blackbox theatre, which houses computerized lighting, computerized surround sound, and telescope flexible seating. Performances in other sites throughout the campus such as Reader’s Theatre in Webb 110, University Hours in the Betty Tipton Room, Open Mics in the Student Center, improvisational works and staged readings of new plays in Shafer 116, and Children's Theatre in Shafer Auditorium are offered as well.

Collaborations locally include Children's Theatre and Reader's Theatre with schools within Windham and Tolland counties; statewide include touring productions (i.e. at Hartford's Aetna Theatre); regionally include the annual Theatre-In-New York Off-Broadway showcase of Student Talent in NYC; and internationally include the ECSU summer residency of workshops and performances presented by The Youth Action Theatre of England at The Harry Hope Theatre, guest residencies of Tour de Force of England, and the Summer School in London program, "Time Travel Through the Arts, Destination: London" hosted by the London Metropolitan University. Please note that guest artist residencies are built into the Theatre program each semester (i.e. as teachers, directors, designers, and performers).

The Drama Society is extremely active (awarded Best Club status on numerous occasions!) and offers leadership as well as creative opportunities for all interested students. For more information, please contact Ellen Faith Brodie, Director of Theatre at 465-5122; Bob Ritz, Production Manager at 465-5124; The Box Office at 465-5123.
