Music Program

At Eastern Connecticut State University, students who major in Performing Arts with a music concentration gain many necessary skills to achieve success after college.  As an integral part of the liberal arts mission of the University, music is an excellent vehicle in which to learn critical and analytical thinking, written and verbal communication skills, and creative expression.  The Music program provides theoretical and experiential opportunities which emphasize the history, theory, performance and criticism of music and musicians from both Western and non-Western traditions.  Each year, there is a full season of diverse concerts, solo and ensemble recitals, and guest artists and ensembles, all of which produce a broad spectrum of styles, genres, eras, and philosophies of our global society.  The Music program serves as a welcoming and inspiring collaborative community of artist/scholars whose goal is for students to achieve their full potential on a path toward making a positive and artistic contribution to the world.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University, is a small institution with a student/teacher ratio of 16:1. Students who study music at Eastern have the opportunity to:

  • Receive individualized instruction from experts in the field
