How to Sign Up to Take a Placement Test Future Placement Testing Dates
The University's Placement Testing Program is coordinated through the Academic Advisement Center . If you have not fulfilled Eastern's writing and math General Educational Requirements then you must take the University's writing and math placement tests. Based on the results of the tests, as well as other indicators of preparedness, you will be placed into courses that are appropriate to their skills and in which they have the greatest potential for success. All first year and transfer students must take both the writing and math placement tests unless they fit into one of the exemptions below. When a student is exempt from only one of the two placement tests, they still must take the remaining one. The writing requirement, developmental mathematic requirement and the mathematic general education requirement must be taken during the first 30-credits of study. You can find out more about the English Placement Test and information regarding which English course to take for the General Education Requirements by clicking here.
Signing Up for the Placement Test Incoming freshmen and transfer students will receive placement test information via the mail. Return the form enclosed to reserve a seat on the placement test date of your choosing. Students may also call the Advisement Center at (860) 465-4526 or visit the Advisement Center in the Wood Support Services Building Room 201 and sign up at the front desk.
Eastern Connecticut State University requires that all students who have NOT taken an English Composition (writing) or a Math course above Algebra II at another college or University, take assessment tests in Writing and Mathematics. Students in ECSU’s Honors Program are exempt from taking all placement tests. NOTE: BRING TWO PENCILS! Please note: You will not be allowed to register for any math or writing course that fulfills Eastern’s General Education Requirement (GER) until you have taken the required assessment test(s). Courses that fulfill Math and Writing GER requirements are expected to be completed within the first year (30 credits) at ECSU. If you have any questions, please contact Carol White, Placement Testing Coordinator, at the Advisement Center (465-5194).
