Overview

Since August 2000 I have supervised several undergraduate research projects that examine the physical and geochemical variability of sediments within Andover Lake, Connecicut. This work has focussed on:

1. Mapping the lake bottom (see "additional reports");

2. defining the stratigraphy within Andover Lake (see work by Heath Carlson and Brian McCann);

3. assessing the spatial variability of sediments and assocated physical and bulk-sediment geochemical properties (see ongoing work by Jennifer Vinci);

4. estimating contributions of nutrients from the surrounding watershed using geographic information systems (see work by Walter Tokarz); and

5. relationships between this work and ongoing interests in maintaining a healthy and recreationally attractive lake (see "other reports").

Throughout this work I have benefited from colloraborations with several excellent undergraduate students majoring in Environmental Earth Science at Eastern Connecticut State University. As well, I have received logistical support and some funding to cover the costs of chemical analyses of lake sediments from the Andover Lake Management Association. This work has also benefited from funding from the Connecticut State University research

In addition to work by my students, interested readers may wish to examine several additional reports and a variety of maps and images that relate to work at Andover Lake.
