Hi, welcome to my webpage. After 18 years working in the UK at the University of Leicester, I decided to come home to the US in 2012. I grew up in the northeast not far from eastern Connecticut, but since college, have lived in Arizona, Texas, Brazil and England. Returning to New England after so many years away is truly soul satisfying and I am delighted to be at Eastern Connecticut State University which is Connecticut's only public liberal arts institution and a rising star in Connecticut's higher education sector. I am a firm believer in Eastern's liberal arts mission and feel fortunate to have joined an institution that is forward looking and confident in its future. We have a great student body, talented faculty and an administration that is strongly supportive of all members of the university community. The Department of Environmental Earth Science is a relatively small, but dynamic department that has doubled its number of permanent faculty in the last 10 years and now has teaching and research expertise in stratigraphy/sedimentology, geomorphology, structure/tectonics, petrology, Quaternary and coastal geology, sustainable energy, hydrogeology and GIS and remote sensing. Eastern Connecticut is rural and scenic and underlain by high-grade metamorphic basement which is a veritable playground for structural geologists. Photos of some of the amazing geology within 20 miles of campus are presented on the linked page 'Connecticut Geology Photos'.

I teach structural geology, continental tectonics, mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, introductory geology courses, a career preparation course, an interdisciplinary course about 'The Mounain World', and domestic/international extended field courses which have taken place in Arizona in 2017, 2014, Idaho and Wyoming in 2022, 2019 and 2015, and Iceland in 2016.

I have active research projects in central Asia where I have worked 20 of the last 28 summers. In recent years, my field research has switched from Mongolia to western China. I also am developing projects with undergraduate researchers in Connecticut. Please see reference list below for some of my/our recent contributions.
