Scholarship for Study in Spain

The Tammy E. Schaeffer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship for Spanish Majors and Minors who plan to study abroad in a

Spanish-speaking country

summer 2012, fall 2012 or the following spring 2013

The Tammy E. Schaeffer Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by her family to honor Tammy Schaeffer who passed away in August of 2005.  Tammy was a 1990 Eastern graduate with a life passion for the Spanish language and culture. Tammy, a customs and border protection officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Service, developed an intensive mandatory program that trains border patrol officers to speak Spanish before they are sent to the country’s southern border. This program allowed this young woman to combine her two loves, Spanish language and teaching. To honor her memory and commitment, her classroom at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia, now bears her name.

This $2,500 award will be given to one deserving student each year to help defray the cost of studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country.

To be eligible, you must be taking or have taken third-year level Spanish and have a ‘B’ average in your Spanish courses.
