Human Services: About the Field
This BGS Degree is designed for individuals who desire to enter or advance within the field of social and human service. Individuals in social and human service jobs typically hold a variety of job titles. Educational attainment influences the kind of work employees may be assigned and the degree of responsibility that may be entrusted to them. Formal education is almost always required for advancement. "Fast Track" your bachelor's degree at Eastern and then consider graduate school!
Job Outlook
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook, job opportunities in community and social service occupations are expected to be excellent. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the professional/managerial area of labor employment represents the second fastest sector of projected growth through 2012. In Connecticut, the Occupational Forecast projects a 17.5 percent increase for health services managers and a 23.4 percent projected increase for social and community service managers.
Courses are offered once-a-week on Saturdays in seven-week modules.
- Beginning fall 2007, Eastern is delivering upper-level accelerated courses in the area of Human Services to both Capital Community College in Hartford and Manchester Community College.
- Over a three-year period, students will be able to take up to twelve courses on the Capital or Manchester Campus.
- Other courses needed to complete the degree will be offered through EasternOnline or are available at Eastern's Vernon/Rockville site.
- This degree will be especially appealing to individuals working in or hoping to work in social service positions.
- Students should be able to complete the degree in three years.

Important Information including Parking Validation for Eastern students. Please Read This!
- Eastern Students at Capital must park in the Morgan Street Garage to take advantage of free parking (Paid by Eastern). Students should take a ticket at the gate and then go to have it validated on the 3rd floor at the Cont Ed Office, in Room 316. If no one is there, they should go to Security on the lobby level.
