Seminars and Workshops

| Each year, Canadian Studies brings to campus speakers on a wide variety of Canadian topics. Among the speakers on campus in recent years have been Canadian Consul General, Pamela Wallin (one of Canada's best known and most respected television broadcast journalists), General Lewis MacKenzie (former commander-in-chief of United Nations forces), Professor Michael Behiels (University of Ottawa, history and political science and an expert on Canadian federalism and political rights of First Nations), and Professor Gerald Alfred (University of Victoria, expert on Mohawk and other First Nation issues). The audience for the talks include students, faculty, staff and community groups. |
International Linkages
| We encourage Eastern students to study in Canada, and we participate in both the New England/Quebec and New England/Nova Scotia Student Exchange Programs. Our students have studied at McGill and Concordia Universities in Montreal. In addition, we have received exchange students from Laval, Sherbrooke, and Concordia Uniersities. Faculty have studied at Universite du Quebec a Trois Rivieres and College Bois de Boulogne. Finally, faculty have presented papers at many Canadian meetings and universities, including Brock University, University of British Columbia, York University, Waterloo Univesity, Cariboo University, and Yukon College. |
Canadian Collections
| The J. Eugene Smith Library houses a Canadian collection of timely and important government documents. The library has an excellent collection of current books, scholarly journals, and periodicals devoted to Canada, including a daily subscription to the Globe and Mail. |
Canada Club
| The Canada Club is a student-directed organization. It sponsors trips to Canada, and hosts a variety of speakers from Canada. All students interested in Canada are invited to join. |
