Knight Gatherings and More

The Foundation for Campus Ministry is a multi-faith organization dedicated to serving the spiritual needs of the University community. Currently there are Jewish, Muslim, Protestant, and Roman Catholic groups and clergy that are active on campus. The dedicated clergy of the Foundation for Campus Ministry (FCM) are from local faith communities and offer spiritual support and programming for the students, staff and faculty at Eastern. Knight House Multi-faith Center at 2 Windham Street Extension is the home of the Foundation for Campus Ministry. It has become a busy center for many different activities.

A growing activity is the Thursday Knight Café which opened in 2004 to meet the social needs of students. The Café is sponsored by Campus Ministry, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of Wellness Promotion. It takes place in the Student Center Café, and is a place where students can watch movies; play games; sing Karaoke; or listen to music, poetry, dramatic readings, and other entertainment. It is a chemical-free environment (no smoking, drinking, or drugs). Punch and snacks are provided free of charge. Our late-night pancakes are legendary.

Campus Ministry has partnered with the Office of Student Affairs / Community Service, VISTA in organizing the Red Cross Blood Drives that are held at Eastern. There were three blood drives in the 2008–2009 academic year, with more planned for the 2009–2010 year. The Red Cross told us that Eastern Blood Drives are the most productive per capita drives on any of the university/college campuses in Connecticut. Watch for opportunities to volunteer or to be a blood donor.

FCM continually looks for new and meaningful ways to minister to the individuals and community at Eastern. The campus ministers look forward to sharing questions, problems and insights that naturally surface as one expands personal horizons through education. If you would like to talk to a campus minister, have ideas for programming, or would like to participate in the work of Campus Ministry, please call 465-5113 or 423-0856.
