Dr. Scott worked as a practitioner in Human Resources Management for 13 years before becoming an academic in the field in 1991. Her experience includes management and supervision of staff as well as positions in Employee Relations, Recruitment and Selection, and Equal Employment Opportunity.

Uncommon people: Digital technology and the Struggle for Community

Dr. Jessa Lingel is a social scientist and digital activist who studies the use of digital technologies in eclectic counterculture communities, including body modification enthusiasts, New Jersey’s punk music scene, and Brooklyn’s booming drag community. This talk examined the capacity of digital technologies to support countercultural communities, with the goal of exposing the multi-faceted nature of online life and the wider implications of how internet technologies are reshaping social interactions.

‘Get Hired’ Career Fair

Centered on insurance and financial services careers, Get Hired is the largest event of its kind in Connecticut. Twenty-four insurance, banking and financial services employers with operations or headquarters in Connecticut were recruiting talent. The event also featured an executive panel, featuring senior leaders and rising talent in the industry to highlight their experiences, and how current candidates could distinguish themselves in the search for employment.

CT Tech Council’s – CT Skills Challenge

Students may compete using any one of the 17 different programming and development languages to develop solutions to three skills challenges. Prizes will be given to the top finishers. Top finisher will continue to the State Championship in December.

Big Data & Elections with Business Intelligence Careers – Panel Discussion

Big data, business intelligence and analytics is now being deployed in political campaigns and elections. Those methodologies and data relate and overlap with those used by leading Connecticut businesses. The panel came multiple corporations including Cigna, Travelers, Phizer and others discuessed the similarities and how political organizations and corporations can use them for competitive advantage and highlight the career opportunities in this discipline area.

The ECSU AITP student chapter sponsored a van to take students from ECSU to New Haven for the CT Technology Council’s Spring 2016 Technology Career Fair. Technology companies from around the state were looking for tech savvy students to fill internship openings and were seeking full-time employees. Even if graduate school is a few years away, the fair provides helpful information in helping our students plan and prepare for graduate school.
