Short biography:
Dr Petkov was the coordinator of the BIS program between January 2004 and August 2010. He was also between Oct 1997 and January 2002 a
full professor and chair in Information Systems at the University of Natal Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. His research covers Software
Engineering, Information Systems, Decision Making, Systems Thinking and Technology Management. He is Deputy Editor (USA) of
Systems Research and Behavioral Science,
(published by Wiley, 2007-, board member since 1995), a member of the editorial boards of IJITSA
(International Journal on Information Technology and the Systems Approach, published by Idea Group Publishing, he was also Senior Area
Editor for Software Engineering between 2007 and 2009), The Int. Journal on Decision Support System Technology
(IGI Global, 2008-), Information Systems Education Journal (AITP EDSIG, 2007-),
Journal of Information Systems Applied Research (AITP EDSIG, 2009-),
Scientific Inquiry Journal (2006-) and was co-editor in chief between
2004 and 2009 of IJCSS (International Journal on Computers, Systems and Signals).
His research has been reported in more than 110 refereed publications in journals, books and proceedings and numerous other
non-refereed papers. His work has appeared in The Journal of Systems and Software, Decision Support Systems, Information Resources
Management Journal, Journal on Information Technology Theory and Applications (JITTA), Telecommunications Policy, Kybernetes,
International Journal on Technology Management, IJITSA, South African Journal on Information Management, JITCAR, South African
Computing Journal, Management Dynamics, IISIT, ISEJ and elsewhere. Dr. Petkov has consulted on organizational learning and IT
evaluation and strategy.
