A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues:

Racially and religiously insensitive language was found on two residential room doors overnight. The Campus Police are conducting a full investigation of the matter to determine if this constitutes a criminal act. Eastern’s Policy on Pluralism and the Connecticut State College and University System’s Policy Regarding Racism and Acts of Intolerance are clear in condemning and forbidding acts of racial and religious harassment.

At Eastern, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and respect for each individual on our campus. Acts of harassment and bigotry run counter to our core values and will not be tolerated. Persons found guilty of such acts shall be adjudicated to the fullest extent possible. If the guilty party is a student, they will be subject to campus judicial proceedings under the Student Code of Conduct.

Such behavior has no place in our society and on our campus. I appeal to all members of the campus community to reject prejudice and hatred, to respect each other, and to report any incidents like this to the Campus Police.
