EASTERN'S RECORD-BREAKERS BREAK IN THROWING CIRCLE
The three most accomplished throwers in men's program history were on hand September 9 when the Eastern Connecticut State University track and field program broke in its new throwing circle, located adjacent to the track facility on the Mansfield campus. Flanking current hammer throw recordholder Matthew Zagura of Ellington are Kurt Gannon (left) of Sterling and Vin Pillari of Norwich. Gannon set the program’s current outdoor discus record in 2002 and Pillari owns the shot put mark which has held up since 1976. Pillari was a 1977 All-America in the shot and was a 1990 inductee to the ECSU/E-Club Hall of Fame. Despite not having its own track facility until recently, Eastern has dominated the Little East Conference men's track and field championship over the last five years.
