2011 Inductees (from left): Amy Keane Steed, Shannon Sligo, Kathy Kimball Tredwell, Paul Martineau, Missy Kowolenko and  Joe Funaro.

Six individuals representing five sports comprise the Class of 2011: Joe Funaro ’95 (baseball) of Hamden; Amy Keane Steed ’90 (women’s soccer) of Tolland; Kathy Kimball Tredwell ’96 (women’s volleyball) of North Stonington; Missy Kowolenko Angle ’94 (women’s basketball) of Killingly; Paul Martineau ’09 (baseball) of Willimantic; and Shannon Sligo ’00 (men’s lacrosse) of South Hadley, MA.

A four-year starter at shortstop between 1992 and 1995, Joe Funaro led the Warriors to two berths in the NCAA Division III national tournament. He was a four-time All-New England selection who was named first-team All-America and ECAC Division III New England Player-of-the-Year as a senior in 1995 when he batted .433 with 68 hits and 106 total bases. Ranked among the program’s Top 20 with 197 career hits, Funaro ranks fifth with a career .396 average and seventh with 344 assists. He was drafted in the 21st round of the 1995 First Year Player Draft by Florida and reached the Triple A level with the organization.

A 5-foot-11 inch middle hitter, Kathleen Kimball led the Warriors to two NCAA and two ECAC tournament berths between 1991 and 1995 (she was a medical redshirt in 1994) and a combined record of 126-49. She was a three-time all-region selection, three-time All-New England pick and MVP of the first Little East Conference tournament as a senior in 1995. A 2002 inductee into the Connecticut Volleyball Hall of Fame, Kimball is currently ranked first all-time in program history in total blocks, second in kills and attack percentage and fifth in total attacks.

A sweeperback, Amy Keane was a four-year starter between 1986 and 1989 and was a member of the first intercollegiate women’s soccer team in 1986 under the direction of her former high school coach and E-Club Hall of Famer Beth Regan ’79. Keane started 52 of a possible 55 matches in her career and was a member of the first post-season tournament team in 1988 and first NCAA post-season tournament team the following year.

Missy Kowolenko graduated as the program’s all-time leader in career (1,429), season (521) and game (36) points and still ranks third all-time in career points. Between 1989 and 1993, the 5-foot-10 inch post player led the Warriors to three NCAA tournament appearances -- including back-to-back Final Four berths -- and one ECAC tournament berth, one outright Little East Conference regular-season championship and a share of another and an LEC tournament title. She was a three-time al-conference pick and All-New England selection as a senior by the ECAC and New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA).

A first baseman, outfielder, and designated hitter, Paul Martineau helped the Warriors to four straight NCAA tournament berths between 1982 and 1985, including back-to-back regional championships and national tournament berths and the 1982 Division III national championship. The left-handed power hitter was a three-time All-New England pick who earned third-team All-America honors as a senior in 1985 when he batted .396 with team-highs of seven home runs and 41 RBI. In his career, Martineau batted .349 with 16 home runs and 133 RBI with a .986 fielding average.  Martineau, who still holds the game record of ten RBI and shares the game record of three home runs, was drafted in the 11th round of the 1985 First Year Player Draft by the Montreal Expos.

Shannon Sligo becomes the first player inducted to the E-Club Hall of Fame from the men’s lacrosse program, which began in 1996. A four-year starter on defense from 1997 through 2000, Sligo was the program’s first All-America, earning honorable mention honors in 1999 and 2000. A four-time  All-New England and Pilgrim League All-Division selection and team MVP and three-year captain and ground ball leader, Sligo led the Warriors to an overall record of 55-10 and a perfect record of 29-0 en route to winning four straight league regular-season and playoff titles. As a senior in 2000, he became the first Eastern player to participate in the prestigious USILA Senior North-South All-Star Game.

In addition to the inductees, local radio personality Wayne Norman will be presented with the Michael A. Atkind Service Award for his contributions to Eastern athletics since the early 1970s. Dr. Bonnie Edmondson ’87 will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

The induction ceremony will be the 18th since the formation of the Hall of Fame in 1986. A total of 97 individuals representing 12 men’s and women’s intercollegiate programs have gained induction prior to 2011.
